What happens

You choose where we stop.

A coat of paint sits on the metal as its own package and takes up the light of the laser far more eagerly than the steel underneath. That lets the layer go in short pulses without the metal really heating up. Layers also react differently from one another, and that is the interesting part: we can stop at the primer or carry on to bare metal.

Chemical stripping means drums, dwell time and waste streams. Blasting means grit, screening and a rougher surface than you sometimes want. The laser works dry and targeted, right where the part happens to stand.

Wood is possible too. Paint and varnish come off solid wood layer by layer, for shutters, doors, window frames and beams. Wood needs a more careful setting than steel, so we always test on a sample area first and show you the result before going further.

Is there chromium-6 in your old layer?

With blasting such a layer spreads as dust through the whole area. With laser cleaning the fume arises at a single point, and that is where we extract it.

What customers ask about this.

Can you take off one layer and leave the layer underneath?

Often yes. Layers react differently to the laser, and with the right setting we stop at the primer or carry on to bare metal. On a test patch we show what is achievable with your particular stack of layers.

Does it work on powder coating?

Yes, powder coating comes off well, although a thick or multi layer stack goes slower than a thin coat of paint. For a pace per square metre we look at your photo first and run a test.

What happens to the removed material?

The layer vaporises and the particles are extracted and filtered at the work point. What the filter catches is taken away as waste under the rules that belong to that material.

Does it work on wood as well?

Yes. Paint and varnish come off solid wood layer by layer, for shutters, doors, window frames and beams. Wood needs a more careful setting than steel, so we test on a sample area first and you see the result before we go further.

Can it also be done on aluminium or thin sheet?

Aluminium and thin sheet are possible, but ask for a more careful setting because the heat runs into the material faster. We test that first and say so honestly if it is too risky.
